Have you ever felt that you were more sensitive than you wanted to be? Has anyone ever hurt your feelings, lied or broke a promise to you? Does the concept of "heart wounds" mean anything to you or resonate with you on any level? Have you ever felt that things just don't work out for you the way they seem to for most other people? Do you feel that life has burdened you with obstacles you can't overcome? Does this statement make sense to you? " You can't get better with the same mind that got you sick!" We need new knowledge and new thoughts in order to be healed! Imagine if you could learn how to eliminate things and thoughts that seemed to be blocking you from achieving a state of Happiness. Dr. Jeffrey Gurian shares in his book " Healing Your Heart, By Changing Your Mind- A Spiritual and Humorous Approach To Achieving Happiness" how he has learned through his own personal experience and through many years of study, to overcome all of the above and more. Burdened with a severe stutter well into his 20's and beyond, seemingly unable to be helped by therapy, combined with the often overwhelming confusion of A.D.D. and a bit of O.C.D. thrown into the mix, he was faced with having to deal with that burden for the rest of his life. His low self-esteem and low confidence level told him he would never have the things that other people had. He engaged in negative thinking. He felt he would never marry, have children, have a successful career or even something as simple as having his own apartment. Being "Graced" with the knowledge that there was really nothing wrong with him, he worked on basically "taking his mind apart," and examining all of his thoughts to see which of his thoughts were not valid, so he could replace them with positive thoughts" that would work for him and not against him. He used this technique to heal himself and go on to achieve all the things he feared he would never have, along the way becoming a husband, father and homeowner. He also became a Cosmetic Dentist, a Clinical Prof. at a major New York university in the Oral Medicine/Oro-Facial Pain Department, a lecturer, a comedy writer for famous stars, a comedian, an author, a radio and television personality, and a Healer. It's this journey and how he did it that he wants to share with you! The Spiritual approach, which is explained fully in the book, is that if something can work for one person it can work for every person because inherently we are all the same. We all have the same 46 chromosomes, the same brain and body parts and therefore are all capable of achieving great things in our lives. There is an abundance available in The Universe and we are all welcome to share in it. And being one of the only doctors with a longtime successful career in comedy has given him a very unique perspective, allowing him to teach you how to be "silly" and incorporate humor into your life. Understanding things like "you can't change your past, the only thing you can change is your perspective of your past, ... thereby changing your future" is key to getting the most out of this book. In this book you will learn: -How to over come the fear that's stopping you from accomplishing your goals. -How to release the 'heart wounds" that affect every decision you make. -How to create your own "Happiness Center." -How to examine your own thoughts to discover which ones are not valid. -How to reprogram your mind and create positive thoughts through the use of affirmations. -How to incorporate ancient Spiritual wisdom into your life in order to stay "sane" and centered through the hard times. -How to change your cellular memory with new techniques like "Verbalization." -How to stay connected to your "inner child" This book was written in the hopes of helping each person who reads it learn to achieve a state of Happiness. It's out there waiting for all of us!

Nautilus Book Awards Winners for 2007 (category: Self-Help/Psychology/ Personal Growth) "Like many people, Kathleen Hall found that despite great success and material wealth, she had yet to identify purpose, meaning, and balance in her work and her life. She left her Wall Street firm and devoted herself to understanding the relationships between mind, body, and spirit, and between professional and personal fulfillment. Since then, she has studied with great spiritual leaders including the Dalai Lama, Bishop Desmond Tutu, and the exiled Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh. She has also learned from medical experts like Dr. Dean Ornish of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Dr. Herbert Benson at the Harvard Mind-Body Institute. Inspired by those diverse influences, Dr. Hall has written A Life in Balance, a guided journey to joy, peace, and an intentional life grounded in the four roots of the SELF: * Serenity. Find what brings us peace, and channel it into everything we do * Exercise. Align the body with energy and health through walking, yoga, martial arts, and more * Love. Build community and relationships that heal others as well as ourselves * Food. Pay attention not just to what we eat, but to what we experience through all our senses Our lives pull us in many different directions; to find happiness, we must first create balance. Filled with wit, wisdom, and compassion, A Life in Balance will help any reader identify and stay true to his or her authentic self."

What is it that keeps so many people mired in a bad relationship, unable to break free or to do what it takes to fix it? Why do some people always seem to be sick, or too exhausted to enjoy life? How about you—do you find yourself wondering, “Is this all there is?” To you, does the grass always seem greener in someone else’s life? Maybe you have difficulty making decisions and sticking to them. Or maybe you know you have bad habits, but you can’t seem to break them. Why is it that your to-do list becomes the most important thing in your life, the second your head hits the pillow? When things are going great do you find yourself constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop? When someone cuts in front of you on the road, are you consumed with anger and find that it affects the rest of your day? If someone in your family leaves the cap off the toothpaste tube, do you react far out of proportion to the seriousness of the offense? During my career as a medical doctor I have discovered that the key to nurturing the mind-body connection is dealing with questions like these. Our brain runs everything we do; it is omnipresent as it directs, plots, and maneuvers us through our lives. Of course, we also need it to keep our heart beating and our lungs breathing. It is the same brain, for the most part, that has existed in the heads of Homo sapiens for more than 200,000 years. A few years ago, a patient encouraged me to “motivate him” with a weekly email message. I decided others might benefit from the same kind of motivation, and so began my weekly message series. As my messages explored more and more subjects and the number of readers grew larger, I began to receive emails from people who told me that what I wrote seemed to be speaking directly to them. This ability to connect might have something to do with the fact that I have been an internist for more than twenty years and have a lot of experience dealing with all aspects of my patients’ lives. My patients always inspire me. Nevertheless, everything I write is based directly on my personal insight and experience. I am now excited to share with you the continuation of my journey, so it can become part of yours. When you learn to stop your own personal brain drain, you will remove the single greatest obstruction to the flow of positive energy into your life. You will understand and take control over that which makes you feel endangered, threatened, or vulnerable and not react automatically to it. You will begin to see life through your mind, and understand that you will always find a way and a way will always find you, attracting the abundance that you deserve.

Everyone wants to be happy. Here in this profound volume is a road map for discovering a life filled with happiness, joy, and a sense of purpose. The Dalai Lama’s basic premise is that each of us is responsible for our own health and happiness and for the health of society. He further asserts that health and happiness are within our reach—both individually and collectively. How a person thinks, behaves, and feels ultimately impacts not only their own lives, but also the society in which they live. If you desire to attain happiness, you must understand that the journey begins with you. It is only then that you can reach out and touch the lives of others and change society. In this anthology, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, with characteristic wisdom, humor, and kindness, directs readers toward a happy, healthy, and peaceful life. Talking about universal themes such as compassion, peace, non-violence, secularism, and the pursuit of a healthy mind and body, he reminds us that the responsibility to change our thoughts, actions, and lives lies within our power. This is a book for fans of His Holiness, for spiritual seekers, and for those interested in the spiritual and emotional health of individuals and societies.

"Ancients lived in accordance with daily, seasonal, and yearly rhythms by necessity. But modern life overrides these cycles -- from weather and food to work and recreation. Because they are inherently cyclical and instinctually caregivers, women are especially affected. Millions of women trying to do it all, all the time, end up feeling depleted and defeated. In these pages Sara Avant Stover shows how simple, natural, and refreshingly fun practices can put women back in sync with their own cycles and those of nature. When we honor spring's seedlings, summer's color, fall's harvest, and winter's quietude, we harmonize our inner and outer worlds. Stover's suggestions nurture the body, invigorate the mind, and lift the spirit, yielding the same benefits as a getting-away-from-it-all retreat. Are you living the life you thought you always wanted but feel that something is still missing? Do you think you should be happier than you are, considering all that you have? Have you achieved your professional or personal goals but still feel racked with insecurities, anxiety, or depression . . . and can't figure out why? Psychiatrist Anna Yusim knows just how you feel. Not only has she struggled with these feelings herself, but she has also worked with patients upon patients who have expressed the same bewildering concern: they have everything they've always wanted, and yet deep down they don't feel fulfilled. Determined to help herself and her patients, Dr. Yusim spent more than fifteen years studying and conducting research and came to a startling conclusion: this lingering feeling of dissatisfaction coincides with spiritual neglect. Once she helped her patients address their spiritual and psychological needs, she saw radical improvements in their happiness levels and quality of life. Now science is catching up with her innovative approach to therapy as groundbreaking medical research and studies substantiate what Dr. Yusim and many others have suspected for years: spirituality is a powerful path to healing. Drawing from the best in Western medicine, as well as teachings from Kabbalah, Buddhism, and shamanistic traditions, Dr. Yusim has developed a program that marries empirical science and spirituality to help you: Discover your life's true purpose Eliminate self-defeating patterns and roadblocks that are keeping you from living your most authentic life Understand the scientific underpinnings behind "answered prayers" and "random coincidences"-and why having faith in them can change your outlook for the better Appreciate how consciousness shapes your reality and how to harness this understanding to live a life of abundance. Filled with exercises, guided meditations, fascinating scientific research, and inspiring success stories, FULFILLED integrates the best of Western medicine with universal spiritual principles to help you find more meaning, more joy, and more fulfillment in your life.

An instant New York Times bestseller Two spiritual giants. Five days. One timeless question. Nobel Peace Prize Laureates His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu have survived more than fifty years of exile and the soul-crushing violence of oppression. Despite their hardships—or, as they would say, because of them—they are two of the most joyful people on the planet. In April 2015, Archbishop Tutu traveled to the Dalai Lama's home in Dharamsala, India, to celebrate His Holiness's eightieth birthday and to create what they hoped would be a gift for others. They looked back on their long lives to answer a single burning question: How do we find joy in the face of life's inevitable suffering? They traded intimate stories, teased each other continually, and shared their spiritual practices. By the end of a week filled with laughter and punctuated with tears, these two global heroes had stared into the abyss and despair of our time and revealed how to live a life brimming with joy. This book offers us a rare opportunity to experience their astonishing and unprecendented week together, from the first embrace to the final good-bye. We get to listen as they explore the Nature of True Joy and confront each of the Obstacles of Joy—from fear, stress, and anger to grief, illness, and death. They then offer us the Eight Pillars of Joy, which provide the foundation for lasting happiness. Throughout, they include stories, wisdom, and science. Finally, they share their daily Joy Practices that anchor their own emotional and spiritual lives. The Archbishop has never claimed sainthood, and the Dalai Lama considers himself a simple monk. In this unique collaboration, they offer us the reflection of real lives filled with pain and turmoil in the midst of which they have been able to discover a level of peace, of courage, and of joy to which we can all aspire in our own lives.
